Château Vaux-le-Vicomte
Discover or rediscover the famous Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, one of the most beautiful castles in France, located only 30 km from our Orly Draveil hotel.
Dating from the 17th century, the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte was built for Nicolas Fouquet, superintendent of the King, and later served as a model for the Palace of Versailles. Indeed, Louis VIX was so seduced by the place that he later entrusted the construction of his own castle to the three artists who had worked in Vaux le Vicomte: the architect Louis Le Vau, the gardener André Le Nôtre and the painter and decorator Louis Le Brun.
Its French gardens also inspired Versailles, with its water fountains, its statues, and miles of geometrically trimmed hedges.
The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, owned by the Vogüé family, is today the largest private monument in France. Don't miss its art exhibitions, the Carriage Museum, its festive events such as the nightly candlelight tours every Saturday evening from May to October, the Grand Siècle Day and its many extras in costumes, or the Easter egg hunt in the gardens and Christmas decorations at the end of the year. The 360-degree panoramic view from the castle dome is also worth climbing to 25 metres high!
Vaux-le-Vicomte, a journey into the art and history of the 17th century that you will surely appreciate!
